On Sunday, November 5th, 2017, you will have your chance to help set a Guinness World Record.
We’re excited to share that the Surfing Madonna Beach Run is expected to set a new Guinness World Record for the world’s largest beach run. Only in its fifth year, this quickly growing run, which benefits the important ocean conservancy work of the Surfing Madonna Oceans Project, is expecting to see over 5,000 runners tackling the beautiful coastal sandy course (starting and finishing at Moonlight Beach) and setting a new world record.
Official Guinness World Record Judges are coming out from New York City to verify the attempt and ensure that the guidelines created specifically for this event (officially called “Largest race on sand”), are being closely followed. Part of the requirements include an “independent witness” for every fifty runners present, to write a report confirming that people started at the same time, and ran at least 100 meters. Another requirement is the course consist of sand a minimum of 10 centimeters deep. (We’re pretty sure our beautiful beaches can handle that..!) Presuming the event meets all the requirements, the official judge will present the World Record title at the race’s award ceremony right after the run. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.
A rockin’ after-party to celebrate this feat will be held at the Seaside Bazaar complete with DJ’s and a beer garden. You should run the race, come to the party, and start exercising those bragging rights you will earn.
