Local’s Guide to Taste of Cardiff

Reach for the sneakers—leave the cute shoes at home! You’re going to thank yourself at the end of the evening after you’ve walked through downtown Cardiff, took a side stroll to catch some gorgeous sunset views and back down the Coast Hwy 101. Some more pro tips? Lucky for you I’ve interviewed an experienced Taste of Cardiff lover! This will by Libby’s 5th year attending Taste of Cardiff!! She continuously comes back because she knows this is the best event of the year. Let’s hear what she has to say:

If you’re trying to hit ALL the spots, you’ll want to:

1) “Be on time. Get there early!” Will call opens at 3 p.m. so get your ticket early and be ready to start at 5 p.m. on the dot. Often times if you show up even an hour late, there’s a chance you’ll miss out on some tasty spots.

2) “Regulate yourself on conversation at the sip stops”—it’s so easy to get caught up with friends just chatting away! If you’re determined to hit every place, make sure you’re watching the clock too! Most importantly, number

3) “Come hungry and hydrated! Pace is the key here… for your appetite and also wetting your whistle.”

Depending on where you decide to start your journey, and truly, “you could go both ways”, you have a couple options for catching the sunset. If you decide to start in downtown Cardiff and head over to the south side, Tower 13 would be a great place to end the evening.

Tower 13 won the Golden Fork Award in 2015 and I got the insider scoop with one of the owners, Doug. They are bringing their Taste of Cardiff game STRONG this year with something new that will speak true to the Beach Bar name. They’ll also be enticing their guests with a live performance by Second Cousins! This rock-alternative-folk music group will surely be bringing down the house, making this a fantastic final stop on the Taste of Cardiff tour. Between the luxurious view, dance-worthy beats and fresh new menu, this Beach Bar is a triple threat and a force to be reckoned with. We hope after tasting their bites, you will return back and make your way through the rest of the menu!

If you decide to start on the south side however, and move your way north, Libby suggests catching the sunset (7:35 p.m. to be exact) on “the rooftop wine lounge at the Cardiff-by-the-Sea Lodge with live music by Ashley Mazanec”! That rooftop will ensure a jaw-drop worthy view that can’t be missed!

Final words of advise? It’s a marathon—not a race! So pace yourselves, stroll down the Hwy 101, soak in the rays and enjoy yourself. Take words from Libby, “mindset is everything”! This is your time to cherish friends, family, and your neighbors.

Hope to see you all there!
