Organization Committee

The Organization committee prepares annual fundraising initiatives, promotes membership involvement and establishes consensus and cooperation by building partnerships with Cardiff-by-the-Sea residences and commercial district stakeholders to provide effective, ongoing management and advocacy for the city.
 

Responsibilities of the Organization Committee

  • Public relations
  • Volunteer development
  • Membership
  • Fund raising when needed (planning and assistance in implementation).
     

Typical activities/projects

  • Training and education on topics pertinent to the committee
  • Main Street organizational brochure
  • Public meetings
  • Volunteer orientations and trainings
  • Fund-raising plan (membership and annual fundraising event) and development of fund­raising materials

Promotion Committee

The Promotion committee develops advertising, retail promotions, special events, and marketing campaigns that create a positive image that will rekindle Cardiff’s community pride while improving consumer and investor confidence in the Cardiff commercial district. The communications express the commercial district's unique characteristics, business  establishments, and activities to shoppers, investors, potential business and property owners, and visitors to stimulate activity.

  • Retail promotions
  • Special events
  • Marketing strategy.

  • Business directory
  • Image-building campaign
  • Holiday lighting/decorations and promotions

Economic Development Committee

The Economic Development Committee’s goal is to build a commercial district that responds to the needs of today’s consumers by strengthening Cardiff’s existing community's economic assets and diversifying its economic base through retaining and expanding successful businesses.  It’s objectives are to provide a balanced commercial mix, sharpening the competitiveness, expand merchandising skills of business owners, attracting new businesses that the market can support, and converting unused or underused commercial space into economically productive property. 

 

Responsibilities  of the  Economic  Development Committee

  • Data collection and market research
  • Assistance and incentives for business and property development
  • Business retention and recruitment
  • Identifying market position
  • Property development. 


Typical activities/projects

  • Committee work plan;
  • Data collection (market studies, existing plans, demographic information)
  • Building and business survey (in conjunction with design committee);
  • Commercial district base map;
  • Business owner and customer surveys
  • Financial incentives for business and property development
  • Monitoring of Main Street's economic progress (rehabs, private investment, new jobs, new businesses).

Design Committee

The Design committee’s goal is to enhance the visual and physical appearance of the Coast 101 Cardiff corridor, its commercial district and create a safe, inviting environment for shoppers, workers, and visitors. The objectives of the Design committee will include activities as instilling good maintenance practices in the commercial district, rehabilitation of historic buildings, encouraging appropriate new construction, developing sensitive design management systems, educating business and property owners about design quality, and long-term planning.


Responsibilities of the Design Committee

  • Design education and technical assistance
  • Building and sign improvements:
  • Design review; Public spaces; and Zoning and planning.


Typical activities/projects

  • Training and education on topics pertinent to the committee;
  • Committee work plan;
  • Building inventory (in conjunction with economic restructuring committee)
  • On-site merchant/property owner visits to educate and encourage design improvements;
  • Workshops (storefront rehab/visual merchandising/rehab tax credits)
  • Improvement incentives (grants/loans/and professional design assistance)
  • Public improvements (Clean-up day, planting flowers-producing small, but meaningful visual changes)
  • Codes/ordinances review
